Buck Curran + Ezra Feinberg, Erin Durant

Buck Curran (of Arborea)

Since 2005, Buck has recorded and performed as one half of the Psych-Folk duo Arborea. To date, Arborea has released five albums, including 2013's ESP-Disk' release Fortress of the Sun, and produced two various-artist compilations (Leaves of Life, a benefit for the World Food Program, and We Are All One, In the Sun, a tribute to Robbie Basho). Leonor Falcon + Kari van der Kloot Quintet, Bogna Kicinska

10pm: Leonor Falcon

On her debut release, Leonor Falcón presents a concept album with pieces inspired by fantastic or mythological creatures from fables, literature and children’s books coming from diverse cultural backgrounds. Falcón delivers an eclectic outing full of psychedelia and intensity with concise compositions that have a lot of character and vibe. For the date she enlisted a group of like-minded peers in an ensemble of particular instrumentation. Christof Knoche on Bass Clarinet, Juanma Trujillo on Guitar and Juan Pablo Carletti on Drums. The group has a strong approach to the music and creates a myriad of interesting soundscapes and textures.

Falcón manages to create an interesting mix of aesthetics ranging from Bebop,Rock, Avant Garde and Latin American music in a way that feels natural and honest.

9pm: Kari van der Kloot Quintet

Canadian vocalist Kari van der Kloot's ethereal vocal sound invites you to get lost in her world with her deeply personal and vulnerable compositions. Kari's debut album “Seedling” was released in 2016. The current iteration of Kari's ensemble plays with the textures of the voice and the violin in an open dialogue.

Greg Dallas Quartet: Lyrical , Kadawa

KADAWA

In a world where daily life revolves around a screen and a finger, KADAWA gives their audience an ‘offline’ experience worth lifting their heads for.
Described by 'The New York Times' as "joy and force in equal measure, full of hummable melodies and moments of proud combustion”, the trio's music draws inspiration from jazz, rock, cinema and literature to create song-like instrumental compositions driven by powerful grooves, distinct moods and adventurous improvisations.
Comprised of guitarist Tal Yahalom, bassist Almog Sharvit and drummer Ben Silashi, KADAWA performs all-original compositions alongside interpretations of Bjork, Bowie, Ornette Coleman and others.

Greg Dallas Quartet: Lyrical
Featuring Ambrose Getz

The debut performance for this group, songs about love, regret, and acceptance are juxtaposed with intense modern jazz improvisation and composition. After years of focusing solely on jazz, this performance will mark the beginning of a new direction for Greg Dallas. Rosali’s songwriting realizes life as rich and alluring melodies within the framework of traditional popular songwriting. Catch Rosali as the guitarist for Long Hots.

J.R. Bohannon is a 6 and 12 string fingerstyle guitarist from Louisville, Kentucky, now residing in Brooklyn, NY. Rooted in the deep traditions of the American south, Bohannon has been honing his craft behind the scenes of his drone/ambient project, Ancient Ocean. No longer hiding behind pedals and synthesizers, his informative style is not based in the tradition of the American Primitive Guitar but reaches out with nods to influences like Ry Cooder, African Tuareg Music, and Andres Segovia. His first debut full-length will be out in 2019 and was recorded by Jeff Zeigler (War on Drugs, Steve Gunn, Kurt Vile). Having opened for Pharoah Sanders, Steve Gunn, Ryley Walker, Martin Courtney, Jim White, and other luminaries in the short existence of the project, the beginning tracks of a long trail ahead have been laid. "Brooklyn’s J.R. Bohannon seems to illustrate the shapes and sights of American landscapes by bending some of its usual musical forms. His work for solo acoustic guitar tucks busy tufts of notes into small spaces, then lets them unfurl in beautifully riverine motion." - Grayson Haver Currin, Indy Week

Jerry David DeCicca is the singer-songwriter from The Black Swans and producer of records by legendary outsider songwriters from the 1960s and 1970s like Larry Jon Wilson (Monument Records, Heartworn Highways), Ed Askew (ESP-Disk, 1967), and Bob Martin (RCA, 1973). He also produced a collection of vintage recordings by Rob Galbraith due late 2015 and provided research and liner notes to the Elyse Weinberg "lost" album, both courtesy of the Numero group.

"DeCicca is a careful, precise songwriter, but the songs don't necessarily sound written. Instead, they seem like they occurred to him naturally and ineluctably. " -- Pitchfork

As a composer, he has written acoustic and electronic music for configurations ranging from solo to chamber orchestra, including multimedia pieces that incorporate electronics, lighting, dance, and theater. His work has been performed throughout the US and Europe, and is documented on many recordings, most recently "Iris (for solo bass and electronics)" (Lockstep Records 2013), and "Sⁿ (for prepared guitar and electronics)", a collaboration with guitarist Christopher Riggs (Gold Bolus Records 2015).

Angela Morris

If Brooklyn’s music circles draw a Venn diagram, saxophonist-composer Angela Morris thrives in the loop between avant-jazz and pop. Originally from Toronto, Canada and based in NYC, she has performed throughout North America and Europe. Her vocal group Rallidae released their new album, Turned, and Was, in November 2016 on the NYC-based label Gold Bolus Recordings; their debut Paper Birds was praised as “an exceptional debut by and exciting and innovative new band.” Morris is a member Motel and TMT Trio, two collaborative trios that have respectively released albums in 2017: like you always do, I always did too by Motel (Prom Night Records), and Star Ballad by TMT Trio. Dana Buoy

A polished and atmospheric examination of missed connections and altered states, where the thrum of 21st century psychedelia meets European dance floor chic, Dana Buoy’s Ice Glitter Gold, is equal parts lusty and lysergic. Helmed by songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dana Janssen (Akron/Family) with long-time collaborator Justin Miller, Dana Buoy deliver a sweaty, late-night pop record with an analogue 4-on-the-floor heartbeat throbbing at the center.

Janssen and Miller’s digital/analog interplay creates its own language of crisp electronics and guitars, writhing together

to create languid dance grooves that switch easily between moments of exuberant open heartedness & vulnerability, and woozy, hallucinatory introspection.

With eight songs, Dana Buoy leaves behind a neon lit, self-aware paper trail, following the heartbreak, disconnection and happiness of a modern man. Moogs, Dreadbox synths, chiming guitars and the taut groove carry a guarded, of the moment (but weirdly-not-cynical) series of elegantly conceived tales

Hans Chew, Dave Heumann of Arbouretum

Hans Chew, Dave Heumann of Arbouretum

Perhaps best known for his keyboard work with other artists like D. Charles Speer, Jack Rose, Endless Boogie, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Steve Gunn, Hans Chew has established himself as a versatile singer, songwriter and performer in his own right. His 2010 debut album Tennessee & Other Stories… received four stars from Rolling Stone and was heralded by Uncut as one of the top 25 albums of the year.

A native Tennessean, Chew’s style has been described in wide fashion, with comparisons to artists like James Booker, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Feat, Nirvana, Little Richard, and Leon Russell. “My grandfather sang harmony on Sundays in a little country church quartet and in the evening I’d hear him pickin’ and grinnin’ that 'high lonesome sound' of Jimmy Martin and Hank Williams out on the carport with his brothers. My mother turned me on to Hendrix and the Stones, but my father listened only to classical music: I knew Beethoven’s Fifth before Led Zeppelin’s fourth.”

Also a dynamic live performer, iTunes’s Music Editor sums it up: “Hans Chew cranks up the tempo and the manic rock ’n’ roll performance until it feels like you’ve landed in the early ‘70s, when Derek & The Dominos were piecing together Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and The Rolling Stones were waiting around Nellcote to record the bits and pieces of Exile on Main St.”

Chew lives and works in New York City.

http://hanschew.com/

Arbouretum has been called “the best of the millennial classic rock bands, a guitar-fuzzed powerhouse.” The band, founded by guitarist and vocalist Dave Heumann, effortlessly weaves its melodies and guitar solos with the often hypnotic rhythms of bassist Corey Allender and drummer Brian Carey around the deliberate keyboard of Matthew Pierce to lift the vocals. The results are a full sound delivered with a striking sense of intimacy. Throughout their time together, the Baltimore-based band have been praised for their ability to weave elaborate vocal lines, and guitar solos that often unravel into extended improvisation, but never with as much finesse as on Song of the Rose. In less practiced hands, these ideas could easily fall into contrivance, but on Song of the Rose, Arbouretum use these elements to perfect their craft of storytelling in song, both lyrically and sonically.

"I got a phone call from Eamon Fogarty in the Spring of 2016. We’d never met but I just finished producing an album for Brooklyn singer/songwriter (and Eamon’s roommate) Jay Hammond. Eamon was in Los Angeles on vacation but his girlfriend couldn’t make her flight. He decided to go surfing and record vocals for his new album, “Progressive Bedroom”. Jay gave him my number.

Eamon has a wonderful, confident voice. I’ve heard him make reference to Scott Walker on occasion but most young artists don’t realize how much they sound like themselves. I was so impressed that I called him back for a recording session on my album “Psychic Temple IV” (soon to be released on Joyful Noise Recordings!) before he could return to the East Coast. That summer I asked him to go on tour with me. He did.

My attraction to honesty is relentless. Eamon Fogarty has no guile. He is as true as a bird singing in the trees. His music, like life itself, contains the beautiful and the grotesque. Some artists demand love from their audience. I don’t know how or why it works but I love Eamon’s music. I feel protective of it. When something that powerful calls out... you should pick up the phone."

Nicole Yun has been the main songwriter, singer and guitarist for indie rock group Eternal Summers for the better part of the last 10 years. Though the group specializes in post-punk and dream pop, Yun has ventured into her own world of psychedelia, 90's college rock and Brit pop for her upcoming debut solo album. With help from two teams of all-star musicians in both Philadelphia and Brooklyn (including Guided by Voices' Doug Gillard, and Maximo Park's Duncan Lloyd), Yun has managed to open up the possibilities of her concise, tuneful songwriting style, to more open and daring directions.

Brute Force, Hamish Kilgour

Brute Force, Hamish Kilgour

Brute Force
Brute Force is an incredible American artist whoʼs been a cult secret for far too long (46 years and counting). Now more than ever the world needs Heavy/Funny, and you, gentle reader, prescient buyer, are in for a transformative treat.

Stephen Friedland, born in 1940, is the man behind the pseudonym Brute Force. As a young man in New York City, Friedland was introduced to The Tokens, an all-male doo-wop vocal group known for their hit, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

The Tokens hired Friedland to work as a songwriter for their music publishing company, Bright Tones Productions, and he eventually became the group’s keyboardist. While working for Bright Tones Productions, he wrote The Chiffons’ 1965 hit “Nobody Knows What’s Goin’ On (In My Mind But Me),” of which his version appears as a bonus track on this album.

In 1967, with famed producer John Simon on board, Friedland went into the studio to record his debut, I, Brute Force – Confections of Love. With this record, he embarked on a journey to depart from the conventions of the current pop music. Sprinkled with surprisingly conspicuous lyrics and diverse instrumentation, his debut certainly stretched the envelope. His characters, weirder than most, are still your basic star-crossed lovers, just ones who march to a slightly quirkier drum. The music sounds familiar and the challenges are the same, but it’s all happening in an alternate dimension.

After the hopefully, but tragic defeat of his single "King of Fuh", Friedland decided to leave the music industry. While working for his father as a paralegal in Edison, New Jersey, he continued songwriting. Eventually regaining his confidence in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Friedland performed as a musical stand-up comic under his given name.

In 2001, Gareth Jones, bandleader of Misty’s Big Adventure, an eight-piece band from Birmingham, England, sent him an email. Jones had read about Brute in Irwin Chusid’s “Music in the Key of Z,” and found “Tapeworm of Love,” a song of Brute’s that appears on this album, on the Internet. He began covering the song with his band, and hoped that Brute would come to England to tour with them. Brute accepted his offer, and since then has toured with Misty’s Big Adventure, as well as with his own band, which features his daughter, Lilah, performing as Daughter of Force.

Hamish Kilgour
One of New Zealand music’s maverick spirits, Hamish Kilgour formed The Clean with younger brother David in Dunedin in the late 70s.
A major part of Flying Nun’s early success, they have been hugely influential internationally, particularly in US indie circles, where fans include members of Pavement and Yo La Tengo.

Hamish Kilgour's second-ever solo album, Finklestein, flips the singer/guitarist/drummer's path taken on All Of It And Nothing. Having previously gone for intimate, minimalistic performances, Finklestein displays a chock-full production quality akin to a fairytale. It's a fitting change, seeing as the songs are based around a children's story Kilgour conceived for his son about a kingdom that invents a way of dealing with their depleting gold resources. The songs include organ, saxophone, pedal steel, piano, vibraphone, harmonica, even footsteps (Hamish is renowned for his stepping), most of it performed by Kilgour and his producer/collaborator Gary Olsen at Olsen's studio, Marlborough Farms in Brooklyn. Originally conceived as being a children's book as well as album, Finklestein rides roughshod through this fairytale world with grace.

Brigid Mae Power, Mosses

Brigid Mae Power, Mosses

Irish singer-songwriter Brigid Mae Power was born in London to a big Irish family, then moved to Ireland (Galway) when she was twelve years old. In addition to the guitar, she plays accordion, baritone ukulele, piano and harmonium; creating hauntingly dreamlike soundscapes. She has toured throughout Ireland, UK and the US supporting renowned acts such as Lee Ranaldo, Richard Dawson, Alasdair Roberts, Peter Broderick and Ryley Walker.

The seeds were sewn for the forthcoming self-titled release - and Tompkins Square debut - after playing a string of UK & Irish shows with esteemed American songwriter and musician Peter Broderick during May 2015. Peter invited Brigid to record a batch of new songs in his Portland home studio, The Sparkle, along the Oregon coast. The Irish musician finished writing this collection of songs in June '15 just before the recording sessions would take place in the early summer. The new record boasts an impeccable sound quality in which Power's mesmerizing voice lies in the forefront of the mix. "I craved having my voice sound larger but more intimate," Brigid explains. It is abundantly clear upon encountering Power's newest work that there is a newfound confidence permeating throughout the songs, augmented by Broderick's intuitive musical direction, which in turn helped the songs evolve. All songs were written by Brigid Mae Power, performed by Brigid and Peter Broderick and recorded, mixed and mastered by Peter Broderick at the Sparkle.

Brigid Mae Power's stunningly beautiful new solo full-length is an album drenched in reverb-soaked emotion and lament. Enchantingly performed and produced, the record showcases a songwriter of immense talent in a soundscape that naturally merges itself to Brigid Power's engulfing sound. The magic lies in the songwriter's expression of raw emotion, in all its delicate beauty. Themes include transformation, change, motherhood, acceptance, strength, courage and trust. In the words of Power, the album is about "trusting if you lose yourself or your way -- you can come back."

Mosses emerged from the heart and mind of Ryan Jewell as a solo outlet for the songs and experiments he was writing that didn’t quite fit with his existing projects. Now active as the duo of Danette Bordenkircher and Ryan Jewell, the sound is eclectic with heavy elements of folk, psych, free jazz, rock and roll, and modal improvisation that are played on 6 and 12-string acoustic and electric guitars, organs, synthesizers, dulcimers, drums, tabla and voice.

Darren Jessee

For someone as soft-spoken as North Carolina-based songwriter Darren Jessee, it might come as a surprise to learn that he has a gold record (in storage somewhere), a platinum record ("I never called them to get it"), and was part of a recent Grammy win ("someone told me they would mail me a certificate if I wanted…"). For years, though, he's managed that almost impossible feat of remaining both ubiquitous and out of the spotlight at once.

Since 2006, he's released four records under the name Hotel Lights, all while working as a drummer for a series of wildly acclaimed acts. He played drums for Sharon Van Etten in support of her celebrated 2014 release Are We There, and since 2016, he's been a member of the Durham-based band Hiss Golden Messenger, performing most recently on their 2017 Merge release Hallelujah Anyhow. In 2017 he contributed to The War on Drugs' A Deeper Understanding, which won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Before any of that, Jessee made his name as a member of the band Ben Folds Five, for which he co-wrote their biggest hit, "Brick."

"I always felt like I needed to have a band," Jessee says. "There's something about being with a group of people that gives you confidence. But secretly I wanted to have the courage to be a solo troubadour."

With his new record, The Jane, Room 217 – Jessee's first as a solo artist – he's finally seen that through.

Rings, Wet Electric

Rings

Rings is a jazz/avant-garde group formed in New York in 2016. It consists of guitarist Juanma Trujillo, Saxophonist Hery Paz, and drummer Dayeon Seok. The group typically performs long form improvisations derived from short fragments of written music.

Wet Electric

Wet Electric sounds like the Internet. Inspired by far-flung influences like Balkan folk music, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and György Ligeti, their mix of complex composition and free improvisation creates jazz meant for today. With unique instrumentation (alto saxophone, Ethan Helm; violin, Gabe Terracciano; piano, Jon Snell; electric guitar, Noah Berman; drum set, Matt Honor) Wet Electric can careen between sonic and emotional extremes: harsh, tender, precise, spontaneous. Their soon-to-be released album, Wet Electricity: Volume I, will present a dense narrative of collaborative constructions alongside the visual art of architect Marshall Ford.

Ben Seretan:
The confused sound of blood in a shining person. How loud can a whisper get, how quietly can an electric guitar hum? Sweet and tender songs, long zones of tones, brushfire flurries of fingerpicking, ecstatic joy, the occasional disgusting guitar solo and/or guided meditation. Sometimes solo, sometimes with a group, ever thoughtful. Available for listening across an impressive swath of LPs, cassettes, and online releases. Generally in NYC.
Seretan is also the creator of My Life’s Work, a 24-hour long recording / interactive multimedia project, a book of travel writing by the name of Past the Breakers, and a video collage piece shot and scored on a small island in the Pacific called Double Alaska.

Kath Bloom, Linda Draper

7:00 PM19:00

Kath Bloom, Linda Draper

For fans of the song and how to feel it. Kath Bloom (USA) is some kind of legend. She comes from a special place where country, blues and folk are made beautifully translucent and emotive. She has a special gift – her voice is delicate and tender, yet retains that raw emotion and hard worn truths that allows each sung word to be felt.

The more you hear of Kath Bloom, the more you notice it’s not just the arresting voice, but the power of the songwriting. “Beautiful” is the typical response—the kind of beauty that comes from truth, musical and the deeply lyrical. There are no good comparisons, but if you like the deep well of Emmylou Harris, the more poignant lyrics of Lou Reed, the joy of Maher Shalal Hash Baz or even Joni Mitchell, you're kinda in the right zone. In reality, she’s simply Kath Bloom: horse whisperer, vocalist, mum, songwriter and a beautiful person.

Her albums recorded with Loren Mazzacane Connors in the 70′s/80′s are rare things, full of songs that float and melt into the ether. Impossibly beautiful and hard to find on LP, but check the reissues from a few years ago . In the 90′s Kath’s music was famously featured in Richard Linklater’s film Before Sunrise. Since then she has been busy writing and recording to great acclaim. Two new albums in the last few years and she and her songs where also honoured on a tribute album featuring Bill Callahan, Scout Niblett and Mark Kozelek.

"Linda Draper approaches folk music with spare songs and a high register not unlike folk mama Joan Baez." Time Out New York

“Channeling the finger-plucked folk music of Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, Linda Draper gets back to her acoustic roots...she sings like a siren, luring some would-be lover to his grisly doom.” American Songwriter Magazine

“Nonchalantly and methodically, she’s built a body of work as one of the most singularly intelligent and individualistic tunesmiths in any kind of music.” New York Music Daily

Richard Papiercuts, Quietus (Record Release)

Papiercuts ///

Richard Papiercuts is an American musician and producer active since the early 1990s.  His work emphasizes songcraft and dense, layered arrangements.  On his earliest recordings Papiercuts combined familiar musical phrases in unfamiliar ways to convey estrangement and disorientation.  Over time his borrowings have grown more subtle but the signposts remain and listeners will likely detect traces of Scott Walker, Talk Talk, and Stax Records in his songs.  He plays intermittent live shows with a live band that includes Thomas Storck, Ed Bear, John Allen, Matt Mottel, Dylan Going, Kevin DeBroux, Arjun Agerwala, and Pascal Ludet.  Papiercuts has cycled through several stage names over the years.  As LF Restaurant he is a founder and leader of The Chinese Restaurants, a fluid ensemble that blends primitive rock, free improvisation, and modern composition since 1996.  Born in Mexico, he relocated to the southwestern U.S. in his teens before arriving in New York City in 1998.  He lives in Harlem with his wife and two sons.

Quietus ///

Quietus has worked in Brooklyn since 2010, quietly making music and records that are guided in sound and method by ideas like this:

“In short, all good things are wild and free. There is something in a strain of music, whether produced by an instrument or by the human voice,--take the sound of a bugle in a summer night, for instance,--which by its wildness…reminds me of the cries emitted by wild beasts in their native forests. It is so much of their wildness as I can understand… The wildness of the savage is but a faint symbol of the awful ferity with which good [people] and lovers meet…I love even to see the domestic animals reassert their native rights,--any evidence that they have not wholly lost their original wild habits and vigor; as when my neighbor’s cow breaks out of her pasture early in the spring and boldly swims the river…swollen by the melted snow. It is the buffalo crossing the Mississippi. This exploit confers some dignity on the herd in my eyes…The seeds of instinct are preserved under the thick hides of cattle and horses, like seeds in the bowels of the earth.”

Cheval Sombre

Cheval Sombre to do a rare, intimate NYC show to celebrate release of new, limited vinyl-only single Had Enough Blues on U.S. label Fat Elvis. According to Rough Trade, "Had Enough Blues is an otherworldly but world-weary rallying cry against everything bad in 2018; a political and personal howl of despair; a quiet revolution. Hitch A Ride is classic Cheval Sombre – psychedelic folk from another dimension." Since self-titled debut lp appeared in 2009 followed by 2012’s Mad Love along with a flurry of singles, Cheval Sombre takes a break from recording his 3rd full length album (due 2019) to do a special solo set. LP Dean Wareham vs. Cheval Sombre is expected this October as well. In terms of recordings and performance, as Last.fm puts it, “Each of Cheval Sombre's songs is a sort of pacemaker. Lyrics crawl out of the vocalist's mouth forming a resounding anthem that doesn't march with climactic tension, but vibrates throughout the track with the unconscious nature of a heartbeat, softening the murmurs into a subtle rhythm.” Copies of Had Enough Blues and other hard to find releases will available at the show.

Pioneers

Josh promotes his "Pioneers." Pioneers : a country album for the urban frontier. When the frontier grows, it makes more places to run away from and fewer places to run away to. This album is about that squeeze.

"Pioneers" combines the sonic palettes of country, bluegrass, R&B, neo-soul, and psychedelic rock into something not unlike Cosmic American Music -- a phase of 60's country whose bassists embraced R&B grooves and pedal steel players experimented with rock guitar effects. "Pioneers" works on acoustic instruments, through.

Website: http://www.impuritan.net

Impuritan – an experimental rock three-piece from San Francisco – consists of Alex Eliopoulos (guitar/bass/keys/vocals), David Molina (guitar/bass/keys/electronics/vocals), and Pepe Abad (drums/percussion). Formed in 2011 by Alex as a solo recording project, the lineup bloomed into a musical collective. Its current members are Bay Area residents with diverse cultural backgrounds from Greece, El Salvador, and Peru respectively.

The music's experimental nature allows for both duo and trio performances by combining live instrumentation with loops & samples to create lush walls of sound. Since 2012, the band has performed consistently at Bay Area music venues, art galleries, and outdoor spaces – often with projections & visuals to enhance the proceedings.

Impuritan have released four albums and received consistent airplay on KALX, KZSU, KFJC, KXLU, and positive coverage in The Bay Bridged, Pow Magazine, and KQED. They have toured the US West & East coasts, and toured Europe in fall of 2017.

On their fourth album Altered Statues, Impuritan captures the blends a wide foundation of post-rock with hybrid affection for psychedelic, noise-driven, and ambient sonics. The brief yet dense EP embraces an expansive range in 15 minutes – a burst of mind-bending feeling and a call to freedom through sound amidst a jaded modern age.

Minor Moon + Maeve Thorne, Gabriel Birnbaum

Dread-laced and hopeful, meticulous and ecstatic - the music of Chicago based Minor Moon traffics in opposing forces in service of reflecting the kind lightness that can bear the tension of one's own contradictions. With a palette that leans heavily on folk rock and alt-country styles and instrumentation, bandleader and songwriter Sam Cantor, wrestles together something altogether different, with songs that slip through the hold of well-worn definitions and expectations.

Minor Moon's latest release, the single It's Okay, outlines a thoroughly modern and curiously self-conscious trip to the grocery store - replete with delusions of cinematic grandeur and zonked out screen time - all cloaked in a sleepy, rainy day almost-retro rock vibe. The band's previous EP, What Our Enemies Know, has been described as "Pink Floydian," "like a sinister Cat Stevens" and "reminiscent of Procol Harum or The Band working their way through a set of Lambchop covers." Minor Moon plans to release their second full length album in early 2019.

Maeve Thorne:
Intimate and expansive, like the last shimmer of dusk. Maeve Thorne plays ethereal, lustered folk rock.

"With her enchanting voice, Maeve Thorne draws you into her life, as told through her mesmerizing lyrics and instrumentals."

Bandcamp: https://maevethorne.bandcamp.com/

Gabriel Birnbaum:
Multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Birnbaum grew up in a family of musicians, playing with blocks under the piano while his older brother practiced Chopin, and begging for his parents to spin Paul Simon’s Graceland on the record player one more time before bed. After years exploring jazz and free improvisation on saxophone, he began experimenting with songwriting and home recording, eventually moving to Brooklyn, NY from Boston to pursue music further, joining Ethiopian ensemble Debo Band and playing with artists as diverse as Sharon Van Etten, Dina El Wedidi, Jens Lekman, Mutual Benefit, Khaira Arby, Katie Von Schleicher, Will Stratton, & Ancient Ocean.

These collaborations with artists ranging from Egyptian pop to drone to indie rock have created a dense web of connections and references from which Birnbaum wrings his songs, with Bob Dylan and Neil Young standing shoulder to shoulder with Mahmoud Ahmed and Pharaoh Sanders. Along the way, his band Wilder Maker has been praised in Spin, Stereogum, Paste, described on NPR as “an indie gem” and on Pitchfork as a “cracked Americana combo.” He has been an artist in residence at both the ISLAND Hill House and Wildacres Retreat.

Swimming Bell (8:30):

Swimming Bell is the recording name of Brooklyn-based songwriter Katie Schottland. Originally from Devon, PA, Katie moved to Brooklyn to attend acting school, but began writing songs when a broken foot left her immobile for months. A chance meeting with British songwriter/producer Oli Deakin (Lowpines) led to a collaboration that formed her debut EP 'The Golden Heart', released in October 2017. The Huffington Post described it as "...charming and delightful, full of infectious melodies, shimmering harmonies and pungent, pulsing rhythms".

Swimming Bell toured throughout the US and in the UK through spring 2018, before embarking on her first full length record, 'Wild Sight'. Working again with Oli Deakin as producer and collaborator, the album was recorded in various locations in London, Leeds and Brooklyn, and then final mixing done in Hoboken by Ted Young (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth).

The best storytellers often aren’t the ones who have had the wildest experiences; they’re the ones who have experienced things we all have, and can articulate them in a way we haven’t yet figured out ourselves. They give us a new vocabulary for talking about ourselves and our world. That’s the gift William Matheny presents to us.

Matheny, a West Virginia native and longtime multi-instrumentalist for Athens, Ohio, indie heroes Southeast Engine, first broke out on his own with 2017’s Strange Constellations, his debut 11-song solo collection. He would best be classed as a songwriter’s songwriter--the kind of composer who gets the melody just right every time, and the kind of lyricist whose turns of phrase bring an involuntary grin. Once you’ve heard his deft songcraft, you might feel cheated that you didn’t discover him sooner.

"…. not so much a familiar sound… but an original one that helps your memory stir and bring you back to the years before… That calm serene vocal echo … Atmospheric structures like buildings encapsulating imagination from the past… Or distant singing of a familiar melody that you can’t put your finger on, but it’s the window of time that it brings you to that’s most important. Listen. Witness… " – Tiny Mix Tapes

".... expertly played with a small ensemble combining the emotional heft and instrumental lyricism of Nico Muhly's vanguard-leading neo-classical and the knotty avant-pop of Nat Baldwin or Liam Singer, Horvitz turns tragedy into an engrossing treatise on loss that feels universal and acutely personal..." – TOME TO THE WEATHER MACHINE (Named 6th best recording of 2015)
