VALES

"…. not so much a familiar sound… but an original one that helps your memory stir and bring you back to the years before… That calm serene vocal echo … Atmospheric structures like buildings encapsulating imagination from the past… Or distant singing of a familiar melody that you can’t put your finger on, but it’s the window of time that it brings you to that’s most important. Listen. Witness… " – Tiny Mix Tapes

".... expertly played with a small ensemble combining the emotional heft and instrumental lyricism of Nico Muhly's vanguard-leading neo-classical and the knotty avant-pop of Nat Baldwin or Liam Singer, Horvitz turns tragedy into an engrossing treatise on loss that feels universal and acutely personal..." – TOME TO THE WEATHER MACHINE (Named 6th best recording of 2015)

William Matheny, Nathan Xander, Dylan Balliet

The best storytellers often aren’t the ones who have had the wildest experiences; they’re the ones who have experienced things we all have, and can articulate them in a way we haven’t yet figured out ourselves. They give us a new vocabulary for talking about ourselves and our world. That’s the gift William Matheny presents to us.

Matheny, a West Virginia native and longtime multi-instrumentalist for Athens, Ohio, indie heroes Southeast Engine, first broke out on his own with 2017’s Strange Constellations, his debut 11-song solo collection. He would best be classed as a songwriter’s songwriter--the kind of composer who gets the melody just right every time, and the kind of lyricist whose turns of phrase bring an involuntary grin. Once you’ve heard his deft songcraft, you might feel cheated that you didn’t discover him sooner.

Belaver + Pueblo, Swimming Bell

Belaver:

Belaver (former frontman of doom-folk band listenlisten) is the solo project of NYC-based experimental folk artist B.E. Godfrey. In 2014, Godfrey released 'Wild Desperation' featuring collaborations with country legend Robert Ellis and Deep Cuts' Chase Harris. Drawing on the dark lyricism of his work with listenlisten, Wild Desperation was a narrative take about murderous men.

Swimming Bell (8:30):

Swimming Bell is the recording name of Brooklyn-based songwriter Katie Schottland. Originally from Devon, PA, Katie moved to Brooklyn to attend acting school, but began writing songs when a broken foot left her immobile for months. A chance meeting with British songwriter/producer Oli Deakin (Lowpines) led to a collaboration that formed her debut EP 'The Golden Heart', released in October 2017. The Huffington Post described it as "...charming and delightful, full of infectious melodies, shimmering harmonies and pungent, pulsing rhythms".

Swimming Bell toured throughout the US and in the UK through spring 2018, before embarking on her first full length record, 'Wild Sight'. Working again with Oli Deakin as producer and collaborator, the album was recorded in various locations in London, Leeds and Brooklyn, and then final mixing done in Hoboken by Ted Young (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth).

Minor Moon + Maeve Thorne, Gabriel Birnbaum

Dread-laced and hopeful, meticulous and ecstatic - the music of Chicago based Minor Moon traffics in opposing forces in service of reflecting the kind lightness that can bear the tension of one's own contradictions. With a palette that leans heavily on folk rock and alt-country styles and instrumentation, bandleader and songwriter Sam Cantor, wrestles together something altogether different, with songs that slip through the hold of well-worn definitions and expectations.

Minor Moon's latest release, the single It's Okay, outlines a thoroughly modern and curiously self-conscious trip to the grocery store - replete with delusions of cinematic grandeur and zonked out screen time - all cloaked in a sleepy, rainy day almost-retro rock vibe. The band's previous EP, What Our Enemies Know, has been described as "Pink Floydian," "like a sinister Cat Stevens" and "reminiscent of Procol Harum or The Band working their way through a set of Lambchop covers." Minor Moon plans to release their second full length album in early 2019.

Maeve Thorne:
Intimate and expansive, like the last shimmer of dusk. Maeve Thorne plays ethereal, lustered folk rock.

"With her enchanting voice, Maeve Thorne draws you into her life, as told through her mesmerizing lyrics and instrumentals."

Bandcamp: https://maevethorne.bandcamp.com/

Gabriel Birnbaum:
Multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Birnbaum grew up in a family of musicians, playing with blocks under the piano while his older brother practiced Chopin, and begging for his parents to spin Paul Simon’s Graceland on the record player one more time before bed. After years exploring jazz and free improvisation on saxophone, he began experimenting with songwriting and home recording, eventually moving to Brooklyn, NY from Boston to pursue music further, joining Ethiopian ensemble Debo Band and playing with artists as diverse as Sharon Van Etten, Dina El Wedidi, Jens Lekman, Mutual Benefit, Khaira Arby, Katie Von Schleicher, Will Stratton, & Ancient Ocean.

These collaborations with artists ranging from Egyptian pop to drone to indie rock have created a dense web of connections and references from which Birnbaum wrings his songs, with Bob Dylan and Neil Young standing shoulder to shoulder with Mahmoud Ahmed and Pharaoh Sanders. Along the way, his band Wilder Maker has been praised in Spin, Stereogum, Paste, described on NPR as “an indie gem” and on Pitchfork as a “cracked Americana combo.” He has been an artist in residence at both the ISLAND Hill House and Wildacres Retreat.

EPK: http://impuritan.net/epk.html

Impuritan – an experimental rock three-piece from San Francisco – consists of Alex Eliopoulos (guitar/bass/keys/vocals), David Molina (guitar/bass/keys/electronics/vocals), and Pepe Abad (drums/percussion). Formed in 2011 by Alex as a solo recording project, the lineup bloomed into a musical collective. Its current members are Bay Area residents with diverse cultural backgrounds from Greece, El Salvador, and Peru respectively.

The music's experimental nature allows for both duo and trio performances by combining live instrumentation with loops & samples to create lush walls of sound. Since 2012, the band has performed consistently at Bay Area music venues, art galleries, and outdoor spaces – often with projections & visuals to enhance the proceedings.

Impuritan have released four albums and received consistent airplay on KALX, KZSU, KFJC, KXLU, and positive coverage in The Bay Bridged, Pow Magazine, and KQED. They have toured the US West & East coasts, and toured Europe in fall of 2017.

On their fourth album Altered Statues, Impuritan captures the blends a wide foundation of post-rock with hybrid affection for psychedelic, noise-driven, and ambient sonics. The brief yet dense EP embraces an expansive range in 15 minutes – a burst of mind-bending feeling and a call to freedom through sound amidst a jaded modern age.

Eric Arn & Margaret Unknown + Lea Bertucci, Marcia Bassett

Explosive free-guitar vets Eric Arn (Feeding Tube, Feathered Coyote) and Margaret Unknown (Golden Lab Records, Wireglobe Recordings) will be touring the US as a duo this fall. They are available for a concentrated dose of brain-bending and string-destroying sound experimentation.

For 10 years, the duo of guitarists Eric Arn (Primordial Undermind, Outer Vortex, Bird People) and Margaret Unknown ((In) The Abyssity of Grounds w/ Linda Sharrock, Guele Populaire) have been exploring the outer reaches of improvised music with results as fascinating as they are audacious. Using any and all techniques, discarding conventional foundations, they eliminate boundaries between psychedelic explorations, free music, abstract noise, and contemporary composition. They are releasing their first duo LP ‘Paranza Corta’ on Feeding Tube Records in May 2018.

Tipple (Frode Gjerstad, Kevin Norton, David Watson), Gospel Of Mars

Tipple is a dynamic improvising trio consisting of players all known for their visceral sound and deep musical history. Tipple is a meeting point: Frode Gjerstad's projects in Norway reach back to his collaborating with the legendary John Stevens and Johnny Dyani. Besides his own work, New Yorker Kevin Norton is best known for his time with Fred Frith and Anthony Braxton. A godfather to much of the experimental music in New Zealand, in New York David Watson has worked with John Zorn, Lee Ranaldo, Ikue Mori and Phill Niblock, amongst others.
Tipple has released four CDs.

"This feels like a group that’s evolving fast and still working out its language… …a kind
of relaxed discursiveness that suits the tough conversational style. There are few more
challenging role-models than that"
-Brian Morton, of The Wire)

"Right from the gitgo, this is tight, high-end improv at its most exciting. This trio is extremely well balanced and tight"

Cheval Sombre

Cheval Sombre to do a rare, intimate NYC show to celebrate release of new, limited vinyl-only single Had Enough Blues on U.S. label Fat Elvis. According to Rough Trade, "Had Enough Blues is an otherworldly but world-weary rallying cry against everything bad in 2018; a political and personal howl of despair; a quiet revolution. Hitch A Ride is classic Cheval Sombre – psychedelic folk from another dimension." Since self-titled debut lp appeared in 2009 followed by 2012’s Mad Love along with a flurry of singles, Cheval Sombre takes a break from recording his 3rd full length album (due 2019) to do a special solo set. LP Dean Wareham vs. Cheval Sombre is expected this October as well. In terms of recordings and performance, as Last.fm puts it, “Each of Cheval Sombre's songs is a sort of pacemaker. Lyrics crawl out of the vocalist's mouth forming a resounding anthem that doesn't march with climactic tension, but vibrates throughout the track with the unconscious nature of a heartbeat, softening the murmurs into a subtle rhythm.” Copies of Had Enough Blues and other hard to find releases will available at the show.

Pioneers

Josh promotes his "Pioneers." Pioneers : a country album for the urban frontier. When the frontier grows, it makes more places to run away from and fewer places to run away to. This album is about that squeeze.

"Pioneers" combines the sonic palettes of country, bluegrass, R&B, neo-soul, and psychedelic rock into something not unlike Cosmic American Music -- a phase of 60's country whose bassists embraced R&B grooves and pedal steel players experimented with rock guitar effects. "Pioneers" works on acoustic instruments, through.

Richard Papiercuts, Quietus (Record Release)

Papiercuts ///

Richard Papiercuts is an American musician and producer active since the early 1990s.  His work emphasizes songcraft and dense, layered arrangements.  On his earliest recordings Papiercuts combined familiar musical phrases in unfamiliar ways to convey estrangement and disorientation.  Over time his borrowings have grown more subtle but the signposts remain and listeners will likely detect traces of Scott Walker, Talk Talk, and Stax Records in his songs.  He plays intermittent live shows with a live band that includes Thomas Storck, Ed Bear, John Allen, Matt Mottel, Dylan Going, Kevin DeBroux, Arjun Agerwala, and Pascal Ludet.  Papiercuts has cycled through several stage names over the years.  As LF Restaurant he is a founder and leader of The Chinese Restaurants, a fluid ensemble that blends primitive rock, free improvisation, and modern composition since 1996.  Born in Mexico, he relocated to the southwestern U.S. in his teens before arriving in New York City in 1998.  He lives in Harlem with his wife and two sons.

Quietus ///

Quietus has worked in Brooklyn since 2010, quietly making music and records that are guided in sound and method by ideas like this:

“In short, all good things are wild and free. There is something in a strain of music, whether produced by an instrument or by the human voice,--take the sound of a bugle in a summer night, for instance,--which by its wildness…reminds me of the cries emitted by wild beasts in their native forests. It is so much of their wildness as I can understand… The wildness of the savage is but a faint symbol of the awful ferity with which good [people] and lovers meet…I love even to see the domestic animals reassert their native rights,--any evidence that they have not wholly lost their original wild habits and vigor; as when my neighbor’s cow breaks out of her pasture early in the spring and boldly swims the river…swollen by the melted snow. It is the buffalo crossing the Mississippi. This exploit confers some dignity on the herd in my eyes…The seeds of instinct are preserved under the thick hides of cattle and horses, like seeds in the bowels of the earth.”

Rings

Rings is a jazz/avant-garde group formed in New York in 2016. It consists of guitarist Juanma Trujillo, Saxophonist Hery Paz, and drummer Dayeon Seok. The group typically performs long form improvisations derived from short fragments of written music.

Wet Electric

Wet Electric sounds like the Internet. Inspired by far-flung influences like Balkan folk music, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and György Ligeti, their mix of complex composition and free improvisation creates jazz meant for today. With unique instrumentation (alto saxophone, Ethan Helm; violin, Gabe Terracciano; piano, Jon Snell; electric guitar, Noah Berman; drum set, Matt Honor) Wet Electric can careen between sonic and emotional extremes: harsh, tender, precise, spontaneous. Their soon-to-be released album, Wet Electricity: Volume I, will present a dense narrative of collaborative constructions alongside the visual art of architect Marshall Ford.

Dan Friel + Katiee, Invisible Circle, Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

Dan Friel creates intense, colorful and intricate instrumentals that, for all their complexity, are melodic pop songs. Equally at

home in the DIY scene and the contemporary art world, Friel has been at the forefront of a movement of musicians who create dance music with a clear affinity for the extremes

of noise and metal, eschewing the traditional dance clubs and adhering to the ethics of the underground. On his sophomore Thrill Jockey album Life, Friel uses his surprisingly small arsenal of gear to distort and maneuver his beloved Yamaha Portasound into an expansive sound that is incredibly varied in tone

and texture. This toy keyboard, his first instrument, is manipulated beyond recognition to create songs that are frenzied and epic. Life also has moments that are incredibly sweet, idyllic, and fragile - sentiments that make perfect

sense coming from a new father whose instrument of choice is his childhood keyboard.

Jennifer O'Connor + Guts Club, Clint Michigan

Advance Tickets here!

Jennifer O'Connor (NY)-
"Jennifer O’Connor has been making under-the-radar, intimate, and emotionally affecting indie pop music for many years. After a stint on Matador Records, she broke off to start her own label, Kiam Records, in 2014; Kiam is also a brick-and-mortar record shop in Nyack, NY. Her sixth record, Surface Noise... is smart and hooky, the kind of record that will immediately catch your ear and that you can continue to find new aspects to love within as you dig into it further." -Impose
http://www.kiamrecords.com/jennifer_oconnor

Guts Club (New Orleans)
"Guts Club you might know as the cracked and slithering quasi-country act of New Orleans’ Lindsey Baker... 'Trench Foot' will be Baker’s third release as Guts Club, following 2016’s 'Shit Bug' and 2015’s 'The Arm Wrestling Tournament.' However and whatever you know, I hope that you’ll trust me when I say there is little else out there quite like the razor-direct intensity of Baker’s lyricism in Guts Club."- Tiny Mix Tapes
https://gutsclub.bandcamp.com/album/trench-foot

Clint Michigan (NY)
At first listen, Clint Michigan’s beautiful, sanguine 'Centuries' (Out now on Kiam Records) sounds like a document of reckoning, a nine track mediation that takes stock of certain realities—both personal and universal—that feel particularly pervasive in the cultural ether right now. Given the steady, assured nature of tracks like “Knickerbocker Street” and “Steven Says,” one might never guess that the record is, in many ways, a snapshot of chaos—a record made by an artist who travelled through the looking glass of a crippling addiction and managed to somehow come out the other side.

Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel + Levy Lorenzo/Peter Evans

Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel:

http://duetonline.net

and/or http://dftals.bandcamp.com

"The name of this Atlanta duo implies a proper classical recital, a rigid formality. But Scott Burland (theremin) and Frank Schultz (lap steel) don't do scripted, improvising not so much distinct sounds as evolving eddies of sound, vapors of tones that develop and transform gracefully. Hypnotic pulses and dreamy drones weave together to form a kaleidoscope of sounds and moods, ambient clouds and swooning collages that are as much about texture as they are timbre, like a long-lost soundtrack to a deep-sea documentary." -P. Wall, Columbia Free Times

Levy Lorenzo (percussion/electronics) & Peter Evans (trumpets)

Levy Lorenzo and Peter Evans began performing duo as part of the International Contemporary Ensemble's OpenICE commissioning series in early 2016. Their music is an otherworldly blur of dense rhythmic frameworks, elaborate notated pieces, open improvisation and weird drones. Lorenzo's complex of self-built instruments, gongs, dry percussion, laptop and sound processing engage with Evans' acoustic trumpet in a dialogue of noise, mystery, precision and chaos.

Arthur King (Earlimart) + Doug Wieselman, Hektor Fontanez

Arthur King (Earlimart) + Doug Wieselman, Hektor Fontanez

Arthur King is not one particular person; it is a dynamic art collective, usually addressed as Arthur King & the Night Sea when referring to its 7-piece ensemble. But this time it’s just Peter Walker and Aaron Espinoza, venturing the plateaus of Utah with only each other and their recording equipment. Their new album, Changing Landscapes (Grand Escalante), features field recordings gone adrift in search of something more.

This epic meandering drone album is thoroughly engaging, despite how daunting. With some simple math, one would expect each of the five tracks on this nearly fifty-minute journey to be ten minutes each, but shockingly, one is barely over two. 'Scorpion' is really little more than a sonic purgatory, and it is only enjoyed as such, if at all, if one has persevered through the opening track, 'Western Fence Lizard'. Not that this record was made for everyone; understandably, music that requires such patience is an acquired taste–but we are all capable of acquiring it. Ambient music mimics life in its spontaneity and bliss, and doesn’t ask us to suspend reality.

Arthur King have ushered in more than a simple impersonation of life, though; they use real sounds of nature captured on a trip to Grand Escalante. Some of the most unsettling sounds are the ones that sound most human, whether a pulsing heartbeat ('Zzyzx'), distorted voices ('Cottonwood Road'), or simply the implication that someone is near, felt in the rustling brush which recurs throughout. But then, isn’t the feeling of discomfort what makes us most human? Or more broadly, it is the feeling of self-awareness, in any situation. Feel your humanity deeply, and meditate on Changing Landscape.

Dustlights, Star Rover, June Child

Dustlights are an emerging experimental post-jazz ambient soundscapes groove trio based in Brooklyn, comprised of drummer David Christian (Hospitality, Mary Timony, AirWaves, Sam Cohen); bassist Ran Livneh (Anbessa Orchestra, Milan to Minsk, TeaMasters); and led by composer/saxophonist Joe Wilson (Nico, Zozo, LaPachamambo). Their debut album In A Stillness will be released by Ropeadope Records on August 3rd, who will also help promote the release show on their platforms. Both an online single and an art video will also be released in online in July to help build some awareness and momentum for the band and show.

Star Rover

Star Rover is Will Graefe (guitar, vocals) and Jeremy Gustin (drums, vocals) -- two seasoned musicians steeped in NYC's vibrant indie music scene. Independently, Graefe and Gustin have worked as session and touring musicians with acts including: Albert Hammond Jr., Sam Amidon, David Byrne, Delicate Steve, Bill Frisell, Jesse Harris, Kimbra, Landlady, Marc Ribot, Okkervil River, Rubblebucket, Tiago Iorc, and Renata Zeiguer. Together, as Star Rover, Graefe and Gustin create golden era post-rock mixed with sophisticated avant-pop.

The band's forthcoming debut album, titled I May Be Lost But I'm Laughing, was written about life and death ("Peppermint Olive") and finding joy and beauty ("Byron Bay") amongst chaos and inevitable sadness ("Red Sky Mourning"). The album has the intensity of rock music, without the typical sonic elements of the genre. It's for fans of Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, John Fahey, The Sea and Cake, Black Keys, and Rodan, and it features co-writes with Dr. Stuff and Y Music's Rob Moose.

Paul Bergmann, Zechariah Funkhouser, Calvin Lecompte

"Paul Bergmann is a prize-fighter: sinuous, sinewy, a ballerina in a bloodspot arena." [L.A. Record] A crooner with a cultish following, Bergmann's "Americana noir goes beyond sad-sack, whiskey-soaked rumination, the hum of his almost pugilistic lyrics wry and sobering and more than a little bit challenging." [Buzzbands LA] Having done his time in L.A., Bergmann now resides in the Northeast. He's played alongside contemporaries like Angel Olsen, Chad Vangaalen, and Nick Waterhouse. “For Bergmann, the great harmonic enchanter, being itself doesn’t hold a center point. And that’s the point. It’s in all of us, distributed equally—a whisper all of us can hear.” [Flood]

Ka Baird:

Ka Baird is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist living and working in NYC. She is one of the founding and continuing members of the long running avant psych project Spires That In The Sunset Rise. Described by Jack Rose as a "female Sun City Girls," STITSR have contributed a different slant to the New Folk movement by incorporating various avant-garde and world music influences into their music. Their sound has been compared to the Raincoats, Meredith Monk, Comus and Harry Partch. Their most recent album "Beasts In The Garden" was described by Marc Masters as "some kind of long-lost Terry Riley/Angus MacLise collaboration, equally devoted to divine repetition and center-seeking ritual." Since 2001, they have released eight full length records and several side releases.

Daniel Fishkin:

Daniel Fishkin’s ears are ringing. Composer, sound artist, and instrument builder. Completely ambivalent about music. Daniel studied with composer Maryanne Amacher and with multi-instrumentalist Mark Stewart. He has performed as a soloist on modular synthesizer with the American Symphony Orchestra, developed sound installations in abandoned concert halls, and played innumerable basement punk shows. Daniel’s lifework investigating the aesthetics of hearing damage has received international press (Nature Journal, 2014); as an ally in the search for a cure, he has been awarded the title of “tinnitus ambassador” by the Deutsche Tinnitus-Stiftung. Recent activities include Composing the Tinnitus Suites: 2016, a concert series about hearing damage, taking place in Philadelphia, PA, supported by a a Project Grant from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Daniel received his MA in Music Composition from Wesleyan University, has taught analog synthesis at Bard College. After a stint working toward his PhD at University of California, San Diego, Daniel returned to the East Coast, and now lives in Queens, NY.

BIRTHH, Noy Markel

 BIRTHH:

talian-based songwriter, producer and instrumentalist Alice Bisi, known for her style of interweaving frank and almost abrupt lyrics about her personal life with spellbinding riffs, has had a keen eye for music from a young age. Shortly after being born in Florence in 1996, she was immersed in music thanks to the influence of her family. She released her first album, 'Born in the Woods' with the WWNBB (We Were Never Being Boring) label in 2016. Following the release of Born in the Woods Alice undertook an almost non-stop touring schedule for two years around much of Europe, US and Canada. This authentic sound engineered by Alice has earned her support slots with many notable names such as PJ Harvey, Mac DeMarco, Andrew Bird and Benjamin Clementine.

Bio: NY based singer/songwriter, Noy Markel creates music with a modern pop twist. With influences ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Amy Winehouse, Noy establishes a uniquely mysterious and “floaty” sound.
While growing up in Israel she began to witness the powerful magic of music and instantly became drawn to its universal quality of bringing people together. Just as music has done for her, she wishes to inspire and open doors within the minds of her listeners.

Post Moves:
Wedged right between the luddite folkisms of Jack Rose and the modal movements of Jim O'Rourke, you might find Post Moves. Through a collection of full lengths and exploratory EPs, Post Moves have walked the line between form and formless work. On their latest album, we still hear Sam Wenc’s obsession with ethereal slide guitars and with rambling stories-as-song. In Boogie Night, we find a bigger palette of sounds; harmoniums, bells, and choruses abound. Finding himself deep within the mantric (and manic) music of Tony Conrad, Sir Richard Bishop, and Susan Alcorn, Wenc pulls at the disquieting aspects of American music. He stretches the confines of the pedal steel guitar to suss out the more textural & tonal elements of the instrument; it's restorative and transfixing, putting the work more in the camp of ambient than anything else. Ultimately, Post Moves make Americana about an America that makes no sense; pastoral, shambling and strange.

Field Guides + CLEBS, b o t

Field Guides:
“Curated by the advertent mind of singer/songwriter Benedict Kupstas comes Boo, Forever, the debut LP by his Brooklyn indie combo Field Guides. A slowly unfurling pastiche of treated guitars, skittering rhythms, folk instruments, and field recordings, the music plays out like thoughtful musings in a Moleskine diary complete with sketches, philosophies, and to-do lists. Though only seven songs long, four of those clock in at over five minutes, often meandering their way through multiple sections, managing to feel both meticulously composed and improvised at the same time. What’s apparent from the opening volley of bird calls and accordion drone is that Boo, Forever is a deeply personal work, and to make any sense of it the listener will have to conform to the album and not the other way around.”—Timothy Monger

Drawing Boards:

Contrary to popular indie-rock opinion, the past can be squared away, registered for deconstruction, and demolished. Yet here is music: the distortion of time. Drawing Boards, of Queens, N.Y., grapples with this absurdity on its self-titled, debut album. In our digital day, the band uses the classic sounds of indie-pop to reflect on the minutes and the years just passed. Many of singer-guitarist Aaron Pfannebecker’s lyrics deal with a relatable nostalgia. Pfannebecker’s suburban memories evoke a melancholy in the music that carries through the notes played. Singer-drummer Doug Marvin’s lyrics explore the sometimes inscrutable feelings trigged by scent and self-inflicted absences. Throughout the record, shimmering synths, booming head kicks, strummed six-strings, and contorted noise inspire a photo album’s worth of emotions.

Fieldings, Laura Wolf, Thee Obsidian Gong

Fieldings 10pm
Fieldings is producer/songwriter Lucinda Hearn, with Paul Weintrob (guitar) and Alex Kirkpatrick (percussion). Fielding's latest album Soft Tissue was written and recorded between fall 2015 and summer 2017, while Lucinda found a new home and new band in NYC. It's woozy with the loneliness and uncertainty of that time, only showing its soft underbelly from around corners.

Laura Wolf 9pm
Cellist and singer Laura Wolf Schatz uses live looping, effect pedals and various instruments to weave a penetrating world of sound. Having performed with various contemporary and classical ensembles, her debut solo EP Stitch One (2017) was met with critical praise, deemed "beautifully immersive" and "distinctly enchanting" by Gold Flake Paint. She is currently workshopping her newest work bridging spacious experimentalism with pop driven songs.

THEE OBSIDIAN GONG 8:15
Thee Obsidian Gong is a duo of Matt Evans and Ben Seretan. They roll around in a cosmic venn diagram of interests - being stoked, standing tones, the whirr of a disco ball as it spins around, clouds of sound, cassette tapes, high fives, excel spreadsheets, broken synthesizers, ratios, and music that, like a rare bird perched in a clearing, you must gingerly approach or else it will take flight and disappear. This will be their third ever performance and they will only loosely have a plan. Matt is a percussionist of the highest caliber and member of the band Tigue. Ben is a stubbornly gentle guitarist and singer working under his own name. The band is named in honor of La Monte Young (plus it sounds really bad ass).

Drug Couple + Kin Hana, Amy Klein

Drug Couple is an anti-capitalist, pro-miscegenation musical duo comprised of Bex and Miles B. A. Robinson (MBAR). The pair met in November 2015, when MBAR was producing a record for Bex’s previous band, Rosebug, at “The CRC”: the Brooklyn studio where he has recorded bands like Chairlift, MGMT, and Public Access Television.

They fell in love in with making music together. They also fell in love. Since then, they’ve been microdosing LSD, taking selfies, and recording a collection of songs about finding someone special to share the end of the world with—called Choose Your Own Apocalypse.

Their influences include Yo La Tengo, Dinosaur Jr., and the musical partnership of Mutt Lange and Shania Twain.

Drug Couple hopes to release this album before the impending armageddon
